The European Union is considering banning the entry of U.S. and other countries, at a time when a second wave of corona has been in the world.
While the World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the spread of the virus is accelerating, a leading U.S. expert has spoken of testing for a possible corona vaccine in its final stages.
A list of 50 countries whose nationals would be allowed to enter the European Union is expected to be issued on Wednesday after a meeting of the European Commission, while nationals of countries that will not be on the list will not be allowed in.
The reporter added that the list was deliberated - non-mandatory - at a meeting of the interior ministers of the 27 EU countries two weeks ago, noting that each EU member state is free to allow or prevent the entry of nationals of other countries.
The European Commission was quoted as saying that the list would be issued after consultation, and explained that the frequency of the spread of THE CORONA virus was among the main determinants of the inclusion of the countries affected by the prohibition of entry.
There had been talk that countries with limited prevalence of MERS-CoV, such as sub-Saharan States and Cuba, would be on the list, while others that were experiencing widespread epidemic outbreaks such as the United States and Latin American countries such as Brazil might not be included.
The New York Times reported Tuesday that the European Union is considering the possibility of preventing Americans from entering its territory because of what he described as president Donald Trump's administration's failure to control the coronavirus outbreak.
The newspaper explained that it has seen the draft lists prepared by the Union on citizens who can enter the country from July 1, and said that these lists do not include citizens of the United States, Russia and Brazil, while they include countries such as China, Venezuela, Uganda, Cuba and Vietnam.
The New York Times said the lack of the United States on that list was a blow to U.S. prestige and a rejection of the way Trump handled the virus that has infected 2,300,000 Americans and caused more than 120,000 deaths.
In March, when cases were on the rise in Europe, Trump banned most EU citizens from entering the United States in an effort to curb the spread.
second wave
In the meantime, Director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauchi and other health officials predicted Tuesday that the United States will experience a second wave of corona epidemic in the coming fall and winter.
During a session of the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee, officials stressed the need to prepare for this potential wave, which may occur during cold weather, as people are more likely to be infected inside their homes.
In Europe, where isolation measures have been gradually lifted, including the opening of borders and the resumption of most economic and cultural activities, there are fears of a new outbreak of MERS-CoV following a sharp decline in infections and deaths in countries such as Italy, Spain and France.
In Germany, more than 600,000 people were quarantined in The State of North Rhine-Westphalia on Tuesday after 1,500 people were injured and thousands more isolated following the spread of the infection from a meat factory there, a day after partial restrictions were imposed in Lisbon, raising concerns over Portugal's tourist season.
In Italy, health authorities fear a second wave of infections due to people generally slackening in taking the necessary precautions.
In Southeast Asia, South Korea acknowledged Tuesday that since mid-May it has been facing a second wave of the epidemic, with 35 to 50 new daily cases recorded, mostly in and around the capital Seoul.
The outbreak continues at a high pace in countries such as Brazil, where more than 1.15 million people have been infected, including some 53,000 deaths, and the epidemic continues to spread in the United States at a high rate, with a total of more than 1.31 million infections, including more than 123,000 deaths.
U.S. President Donald Trump has once again played down the risk of the virus spreading, arguing that the rise in infections is due to expanded testing, but governors from states such as Texas and Florida have acknowledged that this is not the only reason.
Globally, the number of infections worldwide has risen to more than 9 million and 340,000, including more than 5 million deaths and 479,000 deaths.
Vaccine
A potential new vaccine for the coronavirus will enter phase three of testing next month, Director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Anthony Fauci said on Tuesday.
The new vaccine has shown positive results, Fauchi said during a session of the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Several countries, including the United States, China, Britain and international companies, have announced promising signs of the production of an coronavirus vaccine after clinical trials.
The epidemic has officially killed at least 469,600 people worldwide and injured more than 9 million, of whom 4,200,000 have recovered since China announced its appearance last December.
As of Tuesday evening, the number of corona patients worldwide had exceeded 9 million and 285,000, of whom more than 476,000 had died and more than 4,996,996,000 had recovered, according to WorldMeter.
America
In the United States, the country most affected by the virus, the death toll on Monday exceeded 120,000 deaths out of 2,310,000.
U.S. President Donald Trump has continued to allay concerns about the increasing number of MERS infections in the United States, claiming that increased testing is the cause of the increase in infections, but governors in the affected states have expressed greater concern.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott on Tuesday called on citizens to stay home unless they have to go out of their way, while Texas has the highest number of new cases of new coronavirus in a single day.
Governors from other states, such as Texas and Florida, have acknowledged the increase in HIV infections, but not just because of expanded testing.
In Latin America, which has become a epicentre of the virus, Brazil remains the second most affected country in the world after the United States, with 51,271 deaths out of 1.1 million.
In Honduras, the small central American nation of 9 million, the official toll is 300, but the secretary of the Association of Burial Offices, Jesús Moran, is five times higher.
